MOTS-c — 2 mg/mL

A mitochondrial peptide studied for how the body uses energy. Ready to use.

Why people ask about it

What this is for

Metabolic efficiency

In mouse studies, MOTS-c improved how muscle took up and used glucose.

Physical performance

Natural MOTS-c rises with exercise in people, and in older mice treatment was linked to better running capacity.

Cellular longevity

MOTS-c levels fall with age in some studies, which is why it is studied in aging research. Whether it changes aging in people is unknown.

Individual results vary. Your clinician decides whether it is right for you.

What to know about MOTS-c

MOTS-c is a small peptide made from instructions in your mitochondria's own DNA. It is studied for how muscle handles glucose and responds to exercise. A licensed clinician reviews your intake by message and decides whether it fits you.

  1. 01

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA.

  2. 02

In cells it activates AMPK, the same energy sensor exercise switches on.

  3. 03

Mouse studies showed better insulin sensitivity and physical capacity. Human trials are limited.

  4. 04

Ready to use at 2 mg/mL, in a 5 mL or 10 mL vial.

  5. 05

Supplied as a compounded medication, which means it is not FDA-approved.

Who this tends to fit

  • You are interested in metabolic health and exercise capacity
  • You are active and want clinician-guided support
  • You want a ready-to-use vial
  • You want a clinician to review it first

Fitting the description does not mean you will be prescribed this. A clinician decides after reviewing your intake.

Supplied as a compounded medication, so it is not FDA-approved and the FDA has not reviewed it for safety, effectiveness, or quality. The research on MOTS-c is mostly in cells and mice. Human studies mostly measure natural MOTS-c levels in the blood, and controlled trials of injected MOTS-c are limited. It is not a treatment for diabetes, obesity, or any other disease.

How care works

What clinician oversight means here

Licensed clinicians, real review, and support after you start.

  • A licensed clinician decides

Your intake is reviewed by a clinician licensed in your state. They choose the treatment and the dose, and they can decline. Insert MD does not make that call.

  • Dispensed by a licensed pharmacy

Nothing ships without a prescription. Your order is prepared and sent by a licensed pharmacy, not packed by us.

  • Reviewed again at follow-up

Continuing is a decision, not a default. Your clinician reassesses whether the treatment still fits before you carry on.

  • Compounded is not FDA-approved

Several treatments here are compounded. The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality, and we say so on every page where it applies.

Good to know

MOTS-c is encoded in mitochondrial DNA and released into the blood. In cells under metabolic stress it activates AMPK, an energy sensor, and moves into the nucleus to switch on stress-response genes. In mice it improved insulin sensitivity on a high-fat diet and physical capacity in older animals. Those are animal results.

Both are 2 mg/mL. The 5 mL vial is priced as about a 30-day supply at a typical dose and the 10 mL vial as about 60 days. Your clinician's dose decides how long either lasts.

Yes. It ships as a ready-to-use liquid, so there is nothing to mix.

No. It is not a GLP-1 and is not approved for weight loss. If weight loss is your main goal, ask about a weight-loss program instead.

Terms you might hear

Peptide
A short chain of amino acids. Most act as signals between cells.
Mitochondria
Structures inside cells that turn nutrients and oxygen into usable energy.
Mitochondrial DNA
A small set of genes inside mitochondria, separate from the DNA in the cell nucleus. MOTS-c is encoded there.
AMPK
An enzyme that senses when a cell is low on energy and switches on processes that make more. Exercise activates it.
Insulin sensitivity
How well the body's cells respond to insulin and take up glucose from the blood.
Compounded
Prepared for an individual patient by a licensed pharmacy. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
